Social Responsibility
As a national organisation with over 140 locations throughout the UK, we understand our operations make an impact on the world we live in. We are committed to helping our people and the wider community reach their maximum potential by offering support in a number of ways.
Our People
Training and development
We invest heavily in training our employees in order for them to be the best they can be. To ensure our staff meet their potential, we have a dedicated Learning and Development team who concentrate on ensuring all employees have access to training and development opportunities.
Financial support
We offer financial support to employees working towards formal qualifications.
Community
Volunteering
We allow every one of our employees a day off work each year to get involved in local activities or voluntary sector projects.
Considering the environment
Weekly fruit baskets are delivered to Head Office, with a tree planted in Malawi for every basket delivery. Our Green Action Plan outlines the steps we are taking to minimise our impact on the environment.
Education programmes
Work experience/placements
Available to students at local schools, colleges and Universities as part of their educational courses. We also offer placements to anyone interested in breaking into the industry.
Tackling youth unemployment
Through our membership of the 5% Club, a government funded programme aimed at tackling the issue.
We commit to a minimum of 5% of our workforce being enrolled on formalised apprentice, sponsored student and/or graduate development schemes within five years. We are exceeding this target at 8%.
Apprentices
Our policy is to employ at least one apprentice in each of our depots nationwide.
Social Enterprise programmes
Young Offender Programme
Led by National Grid, we have sponsored a number of Young Offenders. Careful monitoring and positive training affect reintegration into society and the workplace.
LifeMAPS
In partnership with the Hire Association of Europe, the scheme aims to aid the personal development of 18-24 year olds outside of employment.
GAP also takes positive steps toward reducing our impact on the environment, through our specially created Green Action Plan.
