GAP comes highly commended with Green Family Business Award

The Herald Scottish Family Business Awards 2018 in association with Business Gateway recognised and rewarded family businesses of all sizes and all sectors in Scotland. The awards were held last week, at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Glasgow on 5th December, and GAP was in attendance after being shortlisted for the Green Family Business Award.

The Green Family Business of the Year Award aims to acknowledge family businesses who have demonstrated an innovative approach and made it their goal to reduce their environmental impact on the world. GAP took home the Commendation award for this category due to its tireless efforts of not only reducing its own impact on the environment, but also working with its customers and suppliers to help them reduce theirs too.

After picking up the accolade, Joint Managing Director of GAP, Douglas Anderson, said: “We are delighted to not only have been recognised for this award, but to pick up a Commendation within the category is a great achievement and testament to everyone in the company and their efforts as a whole.”

“There are many ways in which we work towards making a positive impact and change on the environment throughout every year; it is something that is important to us as a family business and it always will be.”

At GAP, we are continuously taking various steps to ensure that we become a greener business and we place importance on helping our suppliers and customers to do the same, resulting in a responsible supply chain. We promote a positive attitude towards the environment in all of our locations throughout the UK, aiming to reduce our waste, recycle and reuse more materials, increase our use of renewable energy and decrease our fuel emissions.

Each year, we set and agree on annual targets to save energy and to reduce our carbon footprint. The examples of how we are working towards making a difference are plentiful, some of which are:

  • 78% of power requirements are from renewable sources
  • 98% of all oils used are recycled
  • 62,000 less paper invoices sent each month
  • Reduction in fuel consumption thanks to the use of Eco machinery and actively monitoring fuel consumption, mpg and carbon emissions on our vehicle fleet

GAP is working extensively to continue its environmental strategy that will help us remain a leading sustainable business for the future. More information on this can be found in our Green Action Plan.
