Enhancing Site Safety and Efficiency at George Leslie with GAP Hire Solutions
-
Background
George Leslie is a leading Civil engineering Contractor committed to delivering high-quality, sustainable construction projects. With a strong safety-first ethos, encompassing “Nothing is so important that we cannot take the time to do it safely,” the company places the well-being of its people at the heart of every operation.
As part of its forward-thinking business strategy, George Leslie is focused on:
- Delivering sustainable and innovative solutions
- Achieving Net Zero by 2040
- Driving Beyond Zero Harm initiatives
- Creating lasting positive legacies within the communities that we operate
-
The Challenge
The Dunglass Sewer Diversion is a busy construction project with multiple contractor interfaces and a high number of construction plant movements. These factors resulted in the need to identify and implement enhanced on-site safety measures. One such measure in relation to construction plant, was the use of dumpers with an enhanced operator protection system.
-
The Solution
George Leslie turned to GAP Hire Solutions, a trusted partner with a proven track record of providing safe, reliable, and efficient equipment.
Equipment Supplied:
- Dual View/Cabbed Dumpers
- Equipped with Human Form Recognition (HFR) technology, an innovative safety shield system
This solution was chosen following successful equipment trials and a well-established, collaborative relationship between George Leslie and GAP. The partnership is built on shared values around innovation, safety, and service reliability.

The Results
The introduction of dual view dumpers with HFR technology provided significant on-site advantages:
- Increased Operator well-being: Cabbed dumpers offer a more sheltered and comfortable working experience, especially in poor weather conditions.
- Improved Safety: The HFR shield acts as a protective barrier, reducing the risk of injury during loading. This means operators no longer need to dismount, minimising the risk of slips, trips and falls.
- Time and Risk Reduction: The dual view functionality eliminates the need for reversing, enhancing site safety and streamlining workflow.
Gavin Pick, Sustainability & Innovation Manager, at George Leslie commented, “George Leslie are always looking for solutions that are innovative to use and can help us achieve our business objectives. The HFR provides this for us by adding an additional layer of safety, which reduces the risk of harm to others on our projects. In other ways, by minimising the movements on site using HFR, we reduce the fuel use which has a positive benefit on the environment. We’re delighted to work with GAP on this and other product trials, proving that collaboration and an open and honest relationship can bring great benefits.”
