Innovation in Hazardous Waste Management: A Close-Up on GAP's Treatment Facility

GAP Hire Solutions has recently launched our first-ever Treatment Facility, located in Bristol. The state-of-the-art facility allows us to collect and empty waste tanks utilising our fleet of tankers, ensuring the safe and efficient discharge of waste. Our facility is equipped to treat both hazardous waste, including oily water, mud, and non-hazardous waste including sewage, rainwater and drill waste. All waste undergoes secure discharge into the sewer prioritising safety and environmental responsibility. All waste is 100% recycled and reused into pellets, with Plants purchasing the pellets to convert them into fuel.

Green Solutions for Hazardous Waste: How GAP Hire Solutions is Leading the Way

With our dedicated Treatment Facility, GAP no longer depends on third-parties for waste discharge support. This shift brings several environmental advantages, such as reducing the time our drives spend on the road shuttling between customer sites, GAP depots, and third-party facilities. Consequently, this minimises carbon emissions from our fleet and enhances overall waste-handling efficiency. By utilising our own facilities, we guarantee that waste is disposed of in the most environmentally friendly manner, upholding industry standards and compliance.

Safety First: GAP's Commitment to Secure Hazardous Waste Handling

Through our Treatment Facility, we strive to foster a safer environment for local communities and the surrounding areas. Our commitment to safety includes the separate treatment of hazardous and non-hazardous waster using colour-coded tanks. The red tank is dedicated to the treatment of hazardous waste, while the white tank handles non-hazardous waste. This colour-coded system ensures that there is no cross-contamination between different types of waste at our treatment facility.

Regulatory Compliance and GAP's Treatment Plant: A Closer Look

Our team has worked hard to acquire relevant environmental permits for both the treatment site and waste discharge. We diligently adhere to volume and storage limits to ensure compliance with discharge regulations. Ongoing monitoring of standards is a priority, and we proactively reapply for necessary permits to uphold environmental standards across all aspects of our treatment facility. Moreover, our team is currently undergoing training for the WAMITAB HROCK 6 Qualification and their own individual qualifications to uphold industry safety standards.

Kevin Keenan, Head of Tanker Services, commented: “I am extremely proud of our team for the hard work and dedication they have shown to get our first Treatment Facility up and running in Bristol. This brand-new offering enables our Tanker Services division to be completely self-sufficient. We developed plans for the facility with our customers and our environmental impact in mind, working to improve efficiency and reducing emissions. Bristol is only the beginning, and I cannot wait to introduce more locations across the UK.”

GAP Hire Solutions is dedicated to enhancing our environmental impact and efficiency throughout our Tanker Services Fleet. The introduction of our inaugural Treatment Plant marks a significant step in this direction. We have plans to expand these facilities across the UK in the very near future.
