GAP Hire Solutions has been shortlisted in the ‘Best Use of Technology: Carbon Reduction’ category in the New Civil Engineer (NCE) TechFest Awards 2019.
The entry ‘The Future of Site Welfare’ details GAP’s collaboration with AJC EasyCabin to develop the next-generation eco-welfare unit. The Ecosmart ZERO Welfare Unit is an advancement on traditional diesel-powered systems, combining solar and hydrogen fuel cell power to reduce costs and eliminate local carbon emissions. Fuel efficiency data achieved by adopting the new technology can be found here.
In March 2019, the Ecosmart ZERO was delivered to a Morgan Sindall construction site near Heathrow Airport for a six-week trial. This allowed GAP’s customer to examine, test and use the product in an emissions-sensitive environment prior to committing to an order. A case study featuring end user feedback and illustrating the fuel and carbon savings delivered is available to read here.
Available in sizes 12ft to 22.9ft, GAP’s Ecosmart ZERO is the ideal hire solution for customers in a wide range of sectors including construction, rail, events and utilities.
Ken Stewart, GAP’s Head of Procurement, commented: “At GAP, we are continually challenging ourselves and our suppliers to explore more innovative products, processes and services, ensuring that we assist our customers in meeting their environmental targets and statutory obligations.
“Our new Ecosmart ZERO Welfare Units are powered entirely by both solar and hydrogen fuel cell power, meaning they are completely silent and emission free at point of use. This is a great example of supplier collaboration and innovation in bringing this product to the marketplace.”
GAP faces fierce competition in the category which is to be judged live during the NCE TechFest festival on Thursday 26th September at The Brewery in London. The plant, tools, equipment and vehicle hire company will compete against:
• Complete Composite Systems
• Costain
• Cube Controls

• Teknobuilt
• Tideway Alliance
All finalists will find out if they have won at the TechFest Gala Dinner event later that evening.
Tickets to attend the event and/or the awards ceremony to celebrate the industry’s best technology-led innovations are available to purchase on the NCE Techfest website.
