GAP prioritising mental health

GAP continues to work in partnership with the Lighthouse Club, providing financial and emotional support to the construction community.

GAP Hire Solutions continues to work in partnership with the Lighthouse Club, a charity which provides financial and emotional support to the construction community and their families, to raise awareness of mental health in the workplace.

GAP’s Think Safe campaign shows how important health and safety is to GAP, and dealing with mental health and raising awareness plays a big part in this. In 2018, the company launched a mental health awareness training programme for all levels of management within the company which is ongoing. As part of Mental Health Awareness Week 2019 (13th–19th May) GAP ran a training session in London on 14th May for General Managers in the London area. These workshops will be held regularly, continuing to be rolled out to GAP’s management teams throughout the UK during 2019.

GAP, the UK’s largest independent rental company, has a clear strategy to ensure that mental health within the company is recognised and supported responsibly. Its goal is for all staff to be aware of and able to talk openly about mental health, removing any stigmas that surround this important subject, and have an ongoing commitment to ensure this is embedded within the business.

Along with the Lighthouse Club, GAP promotes the Construction Industry Helpline to all staff. This is a confidential 24/7 helpline which offers assistance to all construction workers and their families seeking support in the UK and Ireland.

Mental health affects many people’s lives today, either directly or indirectly, at work or at home, and the increase in awareness is significantly helping people get the support they need.
