GAP Group gets gold

GAP Hire Solutions has achieved FORS Gold certification, the top award available from the organisation.

GAP Hire Solutions, the UK’s largest independent hire company, has achieved FORS Gold certification, the top award available from the organisation.

FORS (Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme) is a voluntary accreditation scheme for fleet operators which aims to raise the level of quality within fleet operations and demonstrate which operators are achieving exemplary levels of best practice in safety, efficiency and environmental protection.

Being a FORS member allows GAP to ensure that it is managing its work-related road risk (WRRR) appropriately while instilling a mindset of continual improvement and demonstrating the Group’s commitment to exceeding the industry standard in fleet management.

GAP’s operations are serviced by a significant number of commercial vehicles and holding FORS accreditation has helped the company focus on and put in place policies and procedures that ensure compliance with all aspects of Transport Law.

While working toward achieving the FORS Gold Standard, all of GAP’s transport managers have participated in various FORS Practitioner workshops to stay up to date with the latest developments and gain crucial knowledge. The hire company’s drivers have also undergone a number of training courses offered by FORS, ensuring that their knowledge and working practices are fully updated, as well as undergoing regular health, fitness and wellbeing briefings and checks.

Chris Parr, Chief Operating Officer at GAP, commented: “We are delighted to have earned FORS Gold. Health, safety and reducing our impact on the environment are all of great importance at GAP and the company has put in a lot of effort and investment to reach this significant milestone.

“All of GAP’s HGV vehicles are fitted with state-of-the-art safety equipment such as cameras, nearside proximity aids and audible reversing alarms. We have invested in an industry leading asset delivery and telematics system which monitors driver behaviours and includes route planning to minimise unnecessary milage and fuel usage. GAP only purchases vehicles with the latest Euro 6 diesel engines built in, helping to reduce CO2, NOx and Particulate Matter emissions.”

In line with its aim to become net zero by 2040, GAP has actively been reviewing its existing fleet, introducing hybrid and electric vehicles where possible, continuously working to ensure their operations follow all FORS standards.
