Background
Wyvis Roofing Inverness Ltd is a family-run roofing and external fabric contractor founded in 2013. With a skilled workforce of 32, the business has built a strong reputation across the Highlands for delivering projects of all sizes with the same core principles: clear advice, reliable services, strong value and a high-quality product.
For Wyvis Roofing, their aim is always to carry out projects safely, on time and within budget, without compromising on service or quality.
-
The Challenge
The Burghead Maltings project presented a unique set of challenges for Wyvis. The building measures 38 metres high and was located in an exposed position on the Moray Firth, where weather conditions can change quickly.
Due to the height and location, materials could not be stored safely at this level. Instead, materials were required to be hoisted daily, often in challenging wind conditions. This created concerns around safety, efficiency and the impact of weather delays on the project.
-
The Solution
Wyvis Roofing chose GAP for their ability to provide a complete hoisting package, from initial design through to erection, installation, inspection and final removal.
GAP supplied a GEDA 500Z/ZP hoist, offering the reliability and performance required for daily material handling at height. The solution met both Wyvis Roofing’s own safety standards and the expectations of the client, ensuring full compliance on a demanding site.
-
The Result
Safety was the overriding priority throughout the project, and the hoisting solution played a key role in achieving this. By utilising GAP’s hoisting services, Wyvis Roofing was able to:
- Eliminate the need for material storage at height
- Respond flexibly to daily weather conditions, including high winds
- Maintain progress on a complex site
The success of the project strengthened the relationship between Wyvis Roofing and their client, demonstrating their ability to overcome challenging conditions with well-planned, safe solutions, building confidence for future work.
-
The Experience
From the outset, the experience of working with GAP was seamless. From the initial site survey through to the erection, inspection and removal, everything went to plan. GAP’s technical knowledge and proactive approach stood out, giving reassurance to both Wyvis Roofing and their client throughout the project.
The team at Wyvis Roofing commented, “We would have no hesitation using GAP Hoists on any future projects. From initial contact through erection and final removal, all staff involved made this a positive experience.”
-
Conclusion
The Burghead Maltings project demonstrated how the right hoisting solution can make even the most challenging sites safe and more manageable. GAP’s fully managed services and GEDA 500Z/ZP enabled Wyvis Roofing to work safely at height in an exposed environment while maintaining project progress and client confidence.
