Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) is a condition that affects people who regularly use vibratory equipment. It is estimated by the Health and Safety Executive that upto 2 million people are exposed to the risks of HAVS throughout the UK in various industries such as construction, utilities, engineering, landscaping and manufacturing.

To help in your risk assessment our HAV Guide can be used in conjunction with our exposure calculator which converts vibration levels into HSE exposure points at defined times, thereby helping you plan and manage daily exposure. All tools hired from GAP have a coloured coded tag (Green/ Amber/ Red) attached providing the manufacturers vibration magnitude. If you require a more detailed description on Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005, please visit the HSE website

How to use the Exposure Calculator :

  • Choose your product
  • Enter the vibration magnitude (level) for the tool or process (or the nearest level)
  • Enter the exposure time (or nearest value) in hours/mins
