GAP triumphs at the Family Business United Awards 2019

GAP Group has won the ‘Property & Construction Family Business of the Year’ accolade at the Family Business of the Year Awards 2019.

GAP Hire Solutions has won the ‘Property & Construction Family Business of the Year’ accolade at the Family Business of the Year Awards 2019.

GAP’s Joint Managing Director Douglas Anderson attended the prize-giving ceremony organised by Family Business United, which was held at The May Fair Hotel in London on Thursday 6th June 2019. Award nominations were submitted from all over the UK. Finalists represented a range of sectors including construction, manufacturing, transport and logistics, hospitality and retail.

Douglas Anderson said: “We are delighted to be named Property & Construction Family Business of the Year. It is a proud moment and testament to everyone at GAP Group and their efforts.

“In this time of economic uncertainty, the long-term focus to ensure sustainable growth embodied by the family business sector will be more important than ever.

“This award only motivates me and the team at GAP to push a little harder. I am very much looking forward to the rest of 2019 and to what the future holds for our vibrant sector.”

Paul Andrews, Founder of Family Business United, commented: “Innovation, investment, passion and pride are evident in family businesses across the UK – confirming that the family business sector has much to celebrate. With around five million family firms in the UK providing around 12 million jobs and generating a significant contribution to GDP, these national awards certainly help to put the family business sector on the map and give them the recognition they deserve.”

Founded by Gordon Anderson in 1969, GAP has grown to become the UK's largest independent plant, tools, equipment and vehicle rental company. A commemorative book celebrating GAP’s 50th anniversary this year, chronicling its development from its inception to its plans for the future, is available to view here.
