What service does the TIC team provide?

While most people know GAP for hire equipment, the TIC team supports customers who prefer to purchase their lifting equipment. We don’t just supply it; we look after it for the long term. If equipment needs installing, our engineers can carry that out. From there, we manage its ongoing inspection, servicing and any repairs required throughout its working life. It’s about giving customers peace of mind that their equipment remains safe, compliant and ready to perform.
What type of equipment do you cover?
Pretty much everything, from a single shackle right through to an overhead crane. We also inspect forklift trucks, telehandlers, vehicle tail lifts, and MEWPs, as well as working at height equipment like harnesses and lanyards. It’s a broad range, because lifting equipment, safety equipment and plant appears in so many different industries and environments.
Why are inspection and servicing so important?
At its core, it’s about protecting people. Regular inspections ensure your workforce is using equipment that’s safe, compliant and suitable for the task. An effective inspection and servicing regime helps identify wear, damage or defects early. That not only extends the lifespan of your equipment but also helps avoid unexpected breakdowns and costly site delays.
It’s also a legal requirement. Failing to meet regulatory requirements can lead to prosecution and significant fines, so compliance isn’t just best practice, it’s essential.
How does GAP help customers stay compliant?
We take a proactive approach. We don’t wait for customers to remember inspection dates, our system flags upcoming due dates and we make contact in advance to arrange a visit. We also match each job with an engineer who has the right skills and qualifications for that specific equipment. That way, customers can be assured that a competent person is carrying out the required works.
Our online portal provides clients with a dashboard detailing compliance data and also provides access to reports of thorough examination, service reports, defect photographs, etc.
What qualifications do our TIC engineers hold?
Our engineers are highly trained and hold a wide range of industry-recognised qualifications such as LEEA (Lifting Equipment Engineers Association) Diplomas, covering areas such as Lifting Accessories, Manual and Powered Lifting Machines, Supporting Structures and Bridge & Gantry Cranes. On top of that, some engineers hold electrical qualifications, NPORS plant inspector credentials, and certifications like IPAF, PASMA, confined space and water hygiene cards. It’s a very skilled team with broad technical expertise.
What advice would you give to customers to ensure lifting equipment stays compliant between inspections?
Maintenance is often overlooked, but it’s a key part of keeping appliances safe. I often compare it to a car. The MOT is your inspection, but you still need regular servicing in line with manufacturer’s guidance. If you maintain your equipment properly, it’s far more likely to pass its inspection without issues. Pre-use checks are also vital. If something doesn’t look or feel right, take it out of service and get in touch with us. We’re always happy to help.
GAP’s TIC team is here to support customers at every stage of their equipment lifecycle, from installation through to ongoing inspection, servicing and expert advice. With proactive scheduling, highly qualified engineers and a focus on safety, we help ensure your lifting equipment is always good to go.
